A PEAR TREE FUNDRAISER AT THE CUT
TWO SHORT PLAYS BY JAN ETHERINGTON
PERFORMED AT THE CUT, HALESWORTH ON JANUARY 18TH 2025 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm in aid of THE PEAR TREE FUND.
Multi award-winning comedy writer, JAN ETHERINGTON has written two plays recently which feature those who are dealing with life-changing illness and their families. They are each full of poignancy and purpose, wit and warmth, laughter and tears.
They will both be performed, with the same cast, at the matinee and later, in the evening to raise funds for THE PEAR TREE FUND, a Halesworth-based charity who offer support, advice and practical information to those who are suffering from life-changing illnesses and their families.
THE S.H.I.T. CLUB (Supporting Husbands in Trauma) is a 45 minute piece in which we meet three women, each caring for husbands with different, serious conditions – Alzheimer’s, cancer and a stroke – and eavesdrop on their pub meetings, where they support each other, cry and often laugh together. The S.H.I.T Club premiered at the INK Festival 2024 and at the Latitude Festival last summer
THERE WILL BE A SHORT INTERVAL
YOU’LL BE FINE is 25 mins long and was commissioned by the Pear Tree Fund 3 years ago, as an aid for counsellors to help families understand the importance of talking to a seriously ill loved one about their wishes and their needs.
Based on Jan’s friendship with the actress Lynda Bellingham, who died of cancer in 2014, Jan remembers Lynda’s frustration that her family shied away from her request to discuss her end of life needs.
You’ll be Fine premiered at the INK FESTIVAL in 2022 and at The NHS conference at The Forum in Norwich.
Jan Etherington is a Patron of The Pear Tree Fund and a contributing writer to the INK FESTIVAL. Her current writing success is BBC Radio 4’s beloved, long running comedy series Conversations from a Long Marriage, starring Joanna Lumley and Roger Allam. A 6th series is about to begin on BBC Radio 4. Jan lives with her husband, Gavin Petrie in Suffolk and swims daily in the North Sea. She has
created many radio and TV series including Second Thoughts, Faith In the Future and Next of Kin.
“I am so proud to be a Patron of The Pear Tree Fund and would be delighted if you can join us to support them, while enjoying my two plays. Our wonderful cast – Hilary Greatorex, Vincent Franklin, Helen Atkinson Wood and Charlotte Parry-will perform the two plays at both performances.”
