HALESWORTH FESTIVE LIGHTS
As you are probably aware from previous articles over the last couple of years, Halesworth Event Management (The voluntary organization that has been putting on the event) has been struggling due to falling committee numbers with fundraising and putting on the Christmas Lights Switch-on event.
When this group started some 12 years ago, we had a very active committee of over 16 individuals, however, our numbers have decreased over the years, and we are now down to just 7.
Prior to our AGM last year, we appealed for more support from the community and while a lot of people gave their verbal support and we did gain some new members it is not enough and we have sadly come to the conclusion that, without an active committee of at least 12, we cannot continue.
We are therefore asking you if you are able to join us and help keep Halesworth Festive Lights. We are looking for enthusiastic, friendly and supportive volunteers. The tasks typically include helping with organising and running quizzes, raffles and other fund raising events, promoting events on social media, liaising with Halesworth Town Council and the various groups that participate in the Switch-On, helping with the running of the Pop-Up Shop week in September, to name but a few as well as the most important job – contacting Father Christmas to check his availability and organising his transport. All of the committee work collectively together as a team supporting one another, doing what ever they are able to help with.
As a committee we do not feel this is a decision we can make in isolation as it affects the whole community, so we would like to invite anybody willing to join us to come to an Extraordinary General Meeting on Tuesday 10th June at 6.00pm in the Stables behind The Angel when a decision will be made on the way forward.
