Located on the edge of the WWII airfield at Holton, on the outskirts of Halesworth, the Airfield Memorial Museum includes a variety of displays including combat records, unit and wartime memorabilia and photographs – many specific to the airfield.
Halesworth Airfield Station 365 (1942 onwards) was built as a Class A bomber base with 3 runways, 2 hangars and accommodation for 3000 personnel. It was primarily an American base – the 56th Fighter Group of the United States 8th Army Air Force were stationed here, and the 489th Bomb Group. The airfield finally became a rescue and training centre and closed in 1946.
